India has the world’s third largest HIV epidemic, and Maharashtra (where the charity operates) has the highest number of people living with HIV.
Women in Need (WIN) joined an annual march across Nagpur on December 1st to highlight Wolrd AIDS Day. Our contribution was to draw attention the plight of HIV+ single mother’s, who silently struggle with the following issues:
Isolation from family & neighbours
Difficulty in retaining jobs through intermittent bouts of poor health
Being unable to afford food & pay utility bills whilst unable to work
Being unable to afford symptomatic medication
These are problems that WIN addresses on a daily basis, and is the ONLY charity providing financial assistance with food, medical and household bills, transport and respite care.
