World Cancer Day 2016

Women in Need joined forces today with Rashtra Sant Tukadoji Regional Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, to organise a rally across the city highlighting World Cancer Day. Ignorance of cancer in India contributes towards the country’s very poor detection and cure rate. With Nagpur having the country’s 2nd highest prevalence of cervical cancer and the 3rd highest of breast cancer, it’s crucial that women from all sections of society become more informed about the prevention and early detection of the disease.

Women in Need regularly organises free cancers screening in the city’s poorest communities; today however, was an opportunity to generate awareness on a larger scale. With an estimated 23% increases in women’s cancers in India by 2020, the need for greater awareness couldn’t be more pressing.
