With leprosy cases on the rise, the need for awareness, early detection and adherence to treatment is crucial.

The global Sustainable Development Goal of 2030, classifies leprosy, also known as Hansen’s Disease, as a

neglected tropical disease. The Indian Government has set its own leprosy elimination target in 2027.

This year’s slogan for World Leprosy Day was “Unite, Act, Eliminate”. WIN joined forces with government and

non-government organisations across Vidarbha to spread awareness and reduce the social stigma through a

series of public programmes. The first was a marathon Run for Leprosy which had over 200 participants. WIN’s

staff and volunteer social workers took part both in organising the event and running in the marathon.
