Portrait of Britain Walk

DOCUMENTARY photographer Jonathan Pearson from Weardale, County Durham, is currently walking from Land’s End to John o’Groats in aid of Women in Need and MIND.

As well as raising funds and awareness for both charities, Jonathan will be documenting his journey through a photographic Portrait of Britain.

Of his support of WIN and journey ahead Jonathan said:

“Whilst working on another project 'Weardale Women', I came across a lady [Leah], who was originally from Weardale but now lives in Nagpur.

“Here she works to provide support and care for women, who have become ostracised by society either because of leprosy, or by a vicious circle of mental health, physical and economic issues.

“When you see the commitment of the charity workers and the needs of the 'lucky' women who have found help, they are impossible to ignore.

“I don’t expect to answer ‘What is Britishness?’ but I do hope to shed a little light on the often complex and diverse people that populate the UK.”

Everyone at Women In Need would like to thank Jonathan for his support and we wish him well on his long journey.
