CHARITY founder Usha Patil, has won the Padmashri Manohar Diwan Award, in recognition of her work helping women in India.
Usha was presented with the award at a special ceremony on 27 February by Sadhana Amte, wife to the late Murlidhar Devidas Amte, one of India's most prominent social activists, who was also a significant name in the field of leprosy.
Manohar Diwan established India's very first leprosy colony in 1921 called Dattapur. Usha was one of thousands to be treated for leprosy at Dattapur colony, which makes the award all the more significant.
