Leprosy Facts
HISTORICALLY leprosy has been portrayed as one of the most dreaded and feared diseases. Unfortunately, such stigma still exists in the 21st Century, even though leprosy is now curable. Many women helped through START and WIN have been thrown out by their families and forced to live on the streets because of such fear and ignorance.
Without treatment and following years of neglect, many have been left with the cruel deformities typically associated with leprosy, as well as the psychological scars of being considered untouchable.
Leprosy continues to affect millions worldwide and we rehabilitate our patients both mentally and psychically, to improve their lives and acknowledge them as human beings, regardless of the disease, regardless of their disabilities.
